Create a board: from a course, a batch, a student, or an AI lesson plan
A board can auto-import a course's lessons, scope to a cohort or a single student, or start blank. You're never locked into one mode — and you can pull a course in later or top up with AI anytime.

From the Teaching Tracker gallery, click New board. The create dialog asks two things: what to call it, and how to fill it. The 'how' is the important part — it decides whether the board arrives pre-filled with topics or blank for you to build.
From a course (auto-import)
Pick 'From a course' and choose one of your courses. Every lesson becomes a topic card, grouped by its module and kept in curriculum order — so an eight-module course arrives as a fully-populated board in one click. The card keeps a link back to its lesson, which is what lets you re-sync later.
Per student or per batch
Teaching the same course to two cohorts at different speeds? Make a board per batch — each tracks its own pace independently. Want to track one learner's journey (common for 1:1 tutoring)? Make a per-student board: it starts blank so you can add exactly the topics that student needs, and the board is labelled with their name in the gallery.
AI lesson plan or from scratch
No course built yet? Describe what you'll teach in the purpose box and choose 'AI lesson plan' — AI drafts an ordered set of topics for you (covered in the next article). Or pick 'From scratch' for a blank board and add topics by hand with the + Add topic button on the Upcoming column.
You're not locked in
Modes aren't permanent. Any board — even a blank one — has an Import course button and a ✨ Generate cards button in its header. So you can start blank, teach for a week, then pull a course's lessons in, then have AI suggest a few more topics. Imported lessons that are already on the board are skipped, so re-importing just adds what's new (a 're-sync').
